Podcast Episode 4

Audio Arcana Episode 4 is recorded and up! All sorts of gems on this one... Puerto Rican jazz, Russian Coldwave, soundtracks galore and lotsa 60's guitars and sitars.

Ran a little overtime on this episode, but hopefully the treasure trove of aural gems makes up for the length, ENJOY!

Podcast Episode 3

Okay... new episode up! In this one, rather than go completely free-form, my co-host Caroline and I, wield two massive stacks of records and play some of our all time favorite records and new acquisitions, staying true to our own tastes and complimenting each others. Sorta like an aural venn diagram!

We are all over the map on this one. Probably my favorite episode yet.

Podcast Episode 2

Alright, for this weeks episode of Audio Arcana, I was joined by my lovely wife Caroline. She culled some of her favorite records from her shelf, and I did my best to keep up with her impeccable taste.

Pretty eclectic grab bag on this one, featuring lotsa records picked up primarily over the last couple months and some old favorites off my shelf.

Listen or download here.

Podcast Episode 1

Okie doke, here is the first episode of Audio Arcana's podcast. Recorded June 18, 2015 and uploaded last week. Had my friend Michael Benson over, he brought along some records to listen to, and decided to fire up the microphone and see what happened.

The shitty sound quality was caused by a fan on, due to the apartment being over 100 degrees, for that apologize. Hopefully this becomes a regular weekly thing.

For the record, that group I had "no idea" about on the podcast named The Avant-Garde... turned out to be a duo featuring none other than Chuck Woolery of Love Connection fame on lead vocals.

Warped 78's

Okay so I acquired a lot of records this weekend... as in a "lot" of records, not "a lot" of records... however, this "lot" was "a lot," but I digress... any who, it ended up being a crate of country LP's, a crate of jazz LP's and a crate of 78's primarily acoustic era (early 1900's-1910's) BUT... in the crate, was a collection of klezmer, yiddish and Jewish 78's that had warped in the sun.

Luckily I found this youtube video on how to flatten 78's with a hairdryer... so, I am going to test it out and hopefully it works. I already broke one trying to flatten it with a book and light pressure... and two more were immediately thrown away because they were beyond the point of no return.

Here's the vid, wish me luck.

If it works, I'll make a comp of some of the better ones...

Howdy!

So after much thought, and coaxing... I have started a new blog, devoted to all things musical. First and foremost, I'll post links to my podcast "Audio Arcana," which is a semi-free form audio podcast with guests bringing on and talking about some of their favorite records. Underneath each streaming episode, will be a download link, as well as the playlist. I'll also use this blog to post old mixtapes, other podcasts I've done, musical oddities and interesting records I've picked up, music related articles, pictures, music videos and other forms of audio arcana as they come my way.

The picture to the left,  was taken around 7 years ago of my collection while living in Florida. I left behind nearly all my records when I moved from Los Angeles. My wife's LP's became ours, and those three shelves of 78's are what I amassed more or less within a 2-3 period. We've come a looooong way since this photo was taken... but it's nice to look back and reminisce about humble beginnings in collectordom. Within a few weeks I'll try to dig out some mixtapes and CD's made during this period to give all of you an idea what sort of stuff I got into back then. ENJOY!
